THE BIG SMOKE

KONELĪNE:our land beautiful had its Vancouver premiere on Monday October 3rd for a sold out audience. North through South’s writer and outreach coordinator attended the premiere, representing One Net Studios and North through South.

We shipped Deanna and Carol-Lynne across the Strait of Georgia on a ferry and pointed them in the direction of the Vancouver Playhouse. Three hours and one orca pod sighting later, the women were live-tweeting and Instagramming the scene at the theatre, finding a few familiar faces from the film and transmedia community before noticing the legendary Canadian scientist and activist David Suzuki.

A WORD FROM THE FILMMAKERS

Everyone took their seats as the VIFF host asked the filmmakers to join him onstage to introduce the film. He shared how KONELĪNE has already triumphed as Best Canadian Feature Documentary at Hot Docs and said the film “shows British Columbia in a beautiful, truthful and complex way.”

After the credits rolled, Nettie led a group of six people onstage—individuals from Northern BC who were featured in the film. She introduced them to the crowd who cheered and applauded them like new friends. She then brought out seven members on the film crew, including the editor and sound team.

Behind them all was a beautiful image highlighting both North through South and the next round of local film screenings.
